SEAsaw: Sailing the Cosmic Sea
SEAsaw: Sailing the Cosmic Sea is a collaborative work with Jo Wood-Brown. Our practice is an intergenerational visual and material dialog between two women artists from different cultures who explore the notion of first encounter. Brought by the sea to unknown lands, the experiences of immigrants, refugees, enslaved peoples and settlers are as relevant in the cultural narratives of today as they were years ago in the Americas. The work was presented by Arts for Art as part of the Vision Festival 25: Breaking Free/Coming Home. It is comprised of three kinetic mobiles, one kinetic see saw, and three copper and clay sculptures. Through these objects and materials Jo and I think together about notions of conveyance and encounter.
